You're right in that how we communicate has changed but I don't think that can account for the drop in mall traffic. A lot of commerce still goes on offline and internet retail (while doing somewhat well) can't account for all those missing bodies.

<a href="#comment-6" rel="nofollow">@juliaandjesus</a>
True, there's a ton of information out there to help you make a decision but there's a cost of the time required to look it all up. So I do actually do a lot of research for big ticket items like TVs, camcorders, etc. Just never got round to doing them for cheaper stuff like vacuum cleaners.

I understand that thought process but am wondering why you haven't thought to actually research what you buy like vaccuums. Consumer reports is a great resource for this. Also when you search for a certain model or brand online, just simply look at the reviews. This will give you a good idea if a product is good or not. Just a thought...

Agree with you - it was a very unbusy year for Christmas cards; but I don't put that entirely down to economics. The means by which we communicate has changed; and all thanks to social networking.

That's good to know but I'll still sleep better knowing my shelves are clear of the expired stuff.

You won't poison yourself if you take medication past it's expiration date. The date is just there to tell you how long the medication is guaranteed to be at the labeled dosage. Medications just lose efficacy beyond the expiration date. So while it's best to replace them after they expire, it's not going to kill you if you take them. :)
